PRIVATE PERCUSSION LESSONS
Personalized instruction helps students develop strong fundamentals, confidence, and versatility across the percussion family—all while discovering more of the music they genuinely love to play.
Percussion students are often expected to move between many instruments at school, auditions, and performances. Lessons at Timp Percussion help students build the technique, musicianship, and adaptability needed to succeed across the entire percussion section—not only behind one instrument. Each lesson adapts to the student’s experience, current school music, interests, challenges, and long-term goals.
Our Growing Instrument Family
Students learn and practice on a complete range of quality percussion instruments—with more on the way.
Concert Snare Drum
A professional Black Swamp maple concert snare drum, along with practice pads for warm-ups and focused technique work, for preparing concert, solo, audition, and All-State repertoire.
Marimba & Keyboard Percussion
A 4.3-octave Adams marimba for mallet instruction, including the technique and repertoire of marimba, xylophone, and vibraphone, with a full 5.0-octave marimba planned for the future.
Drum Set
A fully equipped Yamaha drum set featuring four toms, double bass pedals, two crash cymbals, ride, hi-hat, splash, and cowbell for developing a wide range of styles and techniques.
Timpani
A professional set of four standard-size timpani is on the way, giving students access to the full range used in school ensembles, All-State preparation, auditions, and solo repertoire.
Marching Percussion
A marching snare drum and tenor practice pad for hands-on instruction, with coaching also available for marching bass drum, cymbals, and front ensemble.
Auxiliary & World Percussion
An ever-growing collection of auxiliary percussion, along with cajón, handpan, traditional Brazilian pagode instruments, and other world percussion.

WEEKLY 30-MINUTE PRIVATE LESSONS
$160 per month*
Monthly tuition reserves a consistent weekly lesson time and includes individualized instruction, lesson preparation, use of studio instruments and equipment, and communication and support between lessons. It also supports the resources, maintenance, and planning needed to provide a consistent, high-quality studio experience throughout the year.
BACK-TO-SCHOOL STUDENT OFFER
$10 off per month
Students who enroll during the studio’s back-to-school opening promotion can keep their monthly rate for as long as their enrollment remains continuously active. If lessons are discontinued—including for the summer—future enrollment will be offered at the rate then in effect. Availability is limited.

Lesson format
What We Do in Each Lesson
Each lesson is tailored to the student, but will typically include:
A focused warm-up
Technique and sound development
Music reading and rhythmic fluency
Current school, ensemble, or audition material
Repertoire selected for the student’s interests and development
Guided practice strategies
Clear goals for the week ahead
Creative musicianship and improvisation—often ending with low stress free-styling / improv sessions
Lessons balance structured development with practical preparation and creative music-making, helping students become confident, well-rounded percussionists.
