WHY
Music can shape far more than a student’s ability to perform—it can build confidence, creativity, discipline, self-expression, friendships, and lifelong joy. Chairs, auditions, and competitions are meaningful milestones, but Timp Percussion’s greater purpose is to help students genuinely love making music and carry its influence long after school—and lessons—have ended.
HOW
Meaningful practice balances strong fundamentals with exploration, creativity, and purpose. By experiencing the full world of percussion, students can discover what excites them, choose where they want to grow, and maintain the versatility that keeps future opportunities open. Technique and music reading remain essential, but they become tools for performing, collaborating, and expressing something meaningful—not simply exercises to repeat.
WHAT
Weekly one-on-one lessons combine personalized instruction, strong fundamentals, meaningful repertoire, creative exploration, and preparation for school, auditions, and performances. Students become confident, well-rounded percussionists while learning to overcome challenges, express themselves, collaborate, and take ownership of their growth. Technique provides the foundation, but the confidence, discipline, creativity, and love of music developed through lessons can last a lifetime.

FROM THE OWNER
Giving back to the percussion community that shaped me
Percussion played a defining role in my life throughout high school, and I founded Timp Percussion Studio as a way to give back to the community that gave so much to me. As a member of the nationally competitive American Fork High School Marching Band, I spent several years performing in both the front ensemble and drumline. I was consistently selected for All-State, placing among the top chairs each year—including first and second chair—and regularly earned top-three recognition at Percussive Arts Society competitions. Some of my most meaningful performances included Backseat Freestyle by Brandon Olander on marching snare, Odessa by Matthew Lorick on marimba, and Lauferi by Jani Niinimäki on timpani, as well as two first-place small-ensemble performances. I also participated in numerous honor bands, clinics, and masterclasses, including the opportunity to perform with the Utah Symphony as the sole timpanist in an honor ensemble. While serving a mission in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I gained an even greater appreciation for world percussion through the music I encountered in the streets, communities, and churches of Brazil. After more than five years of teaching private music lessons, I opened Timp Percussion Studio in 2026 to help young musicians discover the same confidence, connection, and lifelong love of music that percussion gave me.
